Ginkgo leaf square design by Karin Daan,
Dutch environmental designer, 1993

Location: Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tokyo, Japan
3-6-3, Shiba-Koen, Minato-ku

Karin Daan's design: square shaped as a giant nerved Ginkgo leaf.

One nerf transports water through a gutter to a Ginkgo leaf shaped pond.

The Ginkgo is the symbol of Tokyo.

Two old ginkgo trees

These two old Ginkgo trees survived
the Tokyo earthquake of 1923,
when fire destroyed most other trees.
Now they form part of the design.

Reflecting Ginkgo leaves in nerf

Reflecting Ginkgo leaves are
pasted in the nerves
of the giant Ginkgo leaf.
